FOUNDER & PRESIDENT
Carey co-founded Mosaic because he’d seen what happens when entrepreneurial families make important decisions based on bad information — not because their advisors weren’t trying, but because they could barely understand where they were and how they got there, let alone where they were going and what the fastest, safest, most efficient path would be.
Carey built Mosaic’s planning engine to make sure that never happens to a Mosaic family. The job: take extraordinarily complex financial, tax, legal, and business information and turn it into clear decisions that families can actually act on — not academic models that sound good but get stuffed into a desk drawer. It’s the part of the work where two of Mosaic’s core values — radical transparency and relentless simplicity — either show up or they don’t. Carey makes sure they show up.
In practice, that means sitting across the table from a family, translating a thousand moving pieces into a conversation they can follow and a plan they can trust. Carey brings deep analytical experience, a genuine obsession with getting the details right (just ask anyone about his red pen), and a team of planning ninjas equipped with the home-grown tools, processes, and pattern recognition honed from hundreds of entrepreneurial families.
He didn’t build this from scratch once — he built it twice. Before founding Mosaic, Carey spent nearly a decade at a boutique wealth management firm, where he designed their planning process from the ground up and developed the analytical tools used across in every client engagement. When it came time to build Mosaic, he brought that same instinct — and then raised the bar.
A native Houstonian, Carey earned his BBA in Finance from Houston Christian University (f/k/a Houston Baptist University), graduating magna cum laude, and later earned his Certified Financial Planner designation after completing coursework at Rice University. He serves on the Advisory Board for the Archie Dunham College of Business at Houston Christian University.
Outside the office, Carey regularly runs marathons and has completed an ultramarathon — which surprises no one who has watched him work through an entity map with so many lines it looks like a bowl of spaghetti. When he’s not running or running numbers, he’s keeping pace with four kids who keep life full, fast, and never simple. If Mosaic’s clients understand that family is complicated, Carey understands it from the inside.
